Guidance notes for all visitors
If you are visiting the wood, please help by observing our guidelines
Public paths and bridleways are shown on the maps on the main information boards at entrances to the wood and on the map below. Other paths and tracks shown on the map in this private wood are available for your use by permission of the Trustees.
The Trustees reserve the right to close any part of the wood for many reasons including forestry operations, conservation purposes and adverse weather conditions. Horse-riding is by permit only except on the bridleways.
• Visitors are asked to follow the Countryside Code and, in particular, to:
• Respect the wildlife - flora and fauna - it is their home
• Do not pick plants or collect specimens
• Do not deliberately introduce flora or fauna into the wood
• Respect other users of the wood
• Take your litter home
• Keep dogs under control
• Do not camp or light fires in the wood.
Please follow the advice on the main information boards at the major entrances.
All users are asked to keep to the tracks and paths, even if they are muddy, and not to walk within the established woodland.
Dog walkers
Commercial dog-walking (walking dogs for profit) is not permitted.
All dogs must be kept under close control at all times.
Dogs must be kept on a lead from April 1st to July 31st. This is to protect ground-nesting birds and young deer.
Dogs must always be on a lead near grazing stock and also when approaching forestry workers.
If you do not trust your dog to obey calls, keep within your sight or refrain from chasing deer then please put it on a lead.
Dogs should not be allowed to enter ponds or to disturb wildlife.
Please remove poo bags from the wood and dispose of them at home.
Please DO NOT leave plastic bags for others to attend to.
Motorised vehicles and cyclists
With the exception of mobility aids, no unauthorised vehicles are allowed within the wood. This includes electrically driven cycles, skateboards and scooters as well as motor-bikes and ATVs.
Bicycles, including electrically assisted pedal cycles, should be ridden on tracks and rides only. If you are damaging a track by using it, especially after heavy rain, then please dismount. A map of the main tracks and rides can be found at all main entrances to the wood and in this leaflet.
Riding off track within the wooded areas and the plantations is strictly forbidden.
Due consideration must be given to walkers, to other woodland users and to wildlife. Riding at speed with eyes focused only on the track ahead is unacceptable.
