Permits for horse riding in the Wood
A permit allows access to some lovely off-road riding, and supports the work of the Trust
Since the earliest days of the Trust, horse riding permits have been operated for those who wish to ride on tracks that are not designated bridleways. This provides some lovely off-road riding which is a great benefit for local horse riders.
It’s important to note that riding is not permitted away from established tracks, and that riders must adhere to any signage closing specific areas to riding at different times of year. This is important both for safety and for the wildlife.
Permit holders are issued with a coloured length of fabric – light grey for 2023 – which should be safely attached to the horse’s tack. Riders are also provided with a map of the wood and with our riders’ guide. Maps are also displayed at the main entrances to the wood and at the barn.
In 2022 we have issued around 50 riding permits – a big thank you to all the riders who are supporting the permit scheme. Nearly all of the horses using the woods live in Winterslow, the Tytherleys, the Grimsteads, Pitton and Farley. Horses living in those villages account for over 90% of the permits issued in 2022.
Permits cost £20 per annum and one permit is required for each horse and rider combination. For more information or to request an application form please contact Tessa Fisher at horseriding@bentleywood.info
